Sorry guys, but I had to say something. A Medal of Honor recipient who served in three wars is being told he cannot fly the American flag in his own yard. Please-Please take the time to email or call your senator and congressman and ask them to do something about this immediately. The link for information is http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,579338,00.html

Please ask your friends and family to do this also. Thank you for helping me with this.

Mark,

I believe his neighbors have dropped their complaints a couple of weeks ago and he is allowed to fly the flag.

Personally, I believe their complaints were assinine. You are a neighbor of a REAL hero who put his life on the line to give people like you the right to be offended by YOUR COUNTRY's flag and you give him - the hero - crap like that? What's wrong with this country?

We are offended by our own flag, flown by a hero. Almost 3,000 of our citizens were killed for no good reason on 9/11 by people who want us all dead because we aren't of their religion, and have them behead and mulitate the bodies of OUR people and we are outraged that our SEALS gave one of them a fat lip when they captured them?

Something's wrong here ................

Garth

Garth

You are correct, I had read an article last week that because of intense pressure and outrage by the American people, the Tenant committee dropped their request. America has become weak because of those who tend to worry so much about everyones rights and feelings. I can't help but think it's mostly because of LIBERALS. Our captured boys will be tourtured, beaten, and probably beheaded, but God forbid should one of our boys treat the enemy with disrepect...........

I've had it with the wimps in this country.

Man up for God's sake.

I wonder if WW2 would have been won if it was fought by this generation? The answer? NO.

I agree with you there Garth. We were lucky to have the fearless leaders we had back then. If we had the whimps as you say running things today, we would have been speaking German. Going one step furthur, I think I read somewhere that our Country is owned in part by the Japanese and China. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THIS TO HAPPEN back in 1945. My God what did these brave men die for..................

Apparently to give us the right to have socialized medicine EVEN THOUGH WE TELL OUR REPS WE DON'T WANT IT ...... and, oh, to have the right to be offended to have a hero fly an US flag and to be outraged that a serviceman in the service of this country gave an enemy of this country a fat-lip ......... boo-hoo ...........

Do you realize where people like me would be until Hitler?

Shalom gentlemen!

Did anyone actually read that article? I ask this because according to the the homeowners association where the retired Colonel lives the problem is *NOT* with him flying the US flag. The problem is the 21 feet tall flagpole he was/is flying the flag from. Here is a quote from another article on the Fox News site:

Article found at: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,579147,00.html

>"This is not about the American flag. This is about a flagpole," reads the statement from the association, which insists that Barfoot directly violated its board's July ruling.

"Col. Barfoot is free to display the American flag in conformity with the neighborhood rules and restrictions. We are hopeful that Col. Barfoot will comply."

The statement reminded the public that many American flags hang from homes in the Sussex Square community, and that the board members object only to Barfoot's freestanding flagpole.<

Peter here again:

In my opinion that puts an entirely different light on the matter. What height of flagpole, if any, the Ex-Colonel and the association agree to is the issue at hand *NOT* his right to fly the US flag since many others in that development *DO* display the US flag *BUT* in accordance with the established guidelines for that community. I hope both parties can work out a compromise that is acceptable to everyone involved.

Shalom, Peter

Peter;
Your point is well taken, but a 21 foot flag pole is not an eyesore or well bring property value down (which is what most home owner associations are really after), especially if an AMERICAN Flag is flying from it. These by-laws are usually put in place for the guy who only mows his grass once a month, or takes 8 months to replace his little 6'x 6' privacy fence that fell down last year in the wind storm.
Take care,
TED

Shalom Ted.

Agreed that most of the time a flagpole of 21 feet isn't an eyesore. Heck, I think that a time when the nation is at war flying the flag in support of the troops is a great thing to do. I wonder what the housing association would say if the Colonel attached the flag pole to his house? From what i garner from the articles I read about this I can not figure out if the flag pole is in the Colonel's yard or on common ground. The second article was ambiguous about that.

What I do agree with is the Colonel's desire to continue to fly the flag in the proper manner where it is 90 degrees from the flag pole rather than in a position similar to dipping the flag, because the flag staff is projecting from the side of a building.

Shalom and cheers from Peter

All,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support. For me, the issue had nothing to do with the flag poll. It had everything to do with the fact that: 1. If it was not for soldiers like him, the association would not have the right / opportunity to complain. 2. He is ninety years old, let him live the short time he has left believing that everything he was willing to die for and believes in will live forever.
I will be the first to admit that as a wounded veteran; and the father of a child who is at war, I am biased when it comes to issues like this. However, the pictures of him bringing that flag down every day and folding it properly spawned an emotion I cannot describe. It was my duty to support him. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for your support.
