Hey Frank!
When you get Frank R to start building Base 17 diorama, how about adding a torpedo Depot and also a gas dock? Wow this is likely to get pretty large with all the stuff that goes on a Base! What scale will it be? I have seen the "Cyclorama" (a Civil War themed painting/diorama about the subject of Shermans burning of the city) in Atlanta GA which takes up the entire building. You should start looking now for a decent building to display it inside of! Jerry

Hey guys-

I need to put up the BIG OL' WHOA SIGN here. The size of this Green Island diorama has already been hashed out many times over and Frank A. and myself decided on 28 x 36 inches" TOPS!

The reason for this size is mainly the ability for Frank A. to move this thing by HIMSELF and through a doorway.

Unless ol' Frank has the moola to pay me a fixed weekly salary for the next fourteen years to build him a full blown base diorama like my Tulagi diorama, I guess we'll have to settle for the smaller size.

There's a bunch of stuff to be crammed into that 28 x 36' space so we'll have to determine what else to put in that diorama.

I do like Ted's idea of two jeeps- one gray and on OD green. I did the same thing on my diorama just for contast.

By the way guys, at my last diorama showing in October for the Naval Congress of the United States National Convention here in sunny Jacksonville Florida, My diorama took up 6 full sized banquet tables with all the documentation. I don't think Frank A. is ready, willing or able for such a project. Then on the other hand....................Frank????

Not to worry Frank R., no changes in our PT-374 project, although two Jeeps is a thought, providing Alex can make it work. Now, I just played the LOTTERY, so this BASE 17 Diorama could be another thing I purchase with my winnings. I already will be building a full sized ELCO, so I am hoping my LOTTERY scrore can cover all of my projects. At the moment, I will settle for something small. By the way Frank, if I hit that LOTTERY anytime soon, I can hire you right away to start building BASE 17........................Dreaming is a wonderful thing.

And of course, the (postwar) jeep Lt. Al Cluster picks up Lt. Kennedy and Ensign Thom in at Todd City on Rendova in "PT 109" was painted gray.

Don't know if I'd go by the movie, though (ha!).

Ahoy there everyone-

After a telephone chat with Frank A. (just call him Dallas, I do), and a lot of ping-ponging the issue of gray jeeps vs. OD green jeeps, we are going with the OD green. Frank A.'s photo files have yet to turn up a "gray" jeep in the South Pacific. Sooooooooooo, I'm gonna do up the Green Island jeep in OD green along with anything else that comes down the diorama pike.

Just as soon as I finish restoring a 100 year old 2 masted Sudsbury work brig, I hope to get back to the diorama building for the Green Osland project. I've got a full slate of stuff to build and create and I'll be sending Frankie Dallas some shots of the progression of the builds for you guys to see.
