I know that I have asked this question once before, but here goes. Do any of you PT BOAT VETS remember seeing any Jeeps in the Pacific that were gray in color. As one of the jeeps will be in the PT-374 project, I could have Frank Ryczek do the thing in OD GREEN. The gray color I like as well, but want to be correct. I was once told that the Navy Gray Jeeps were only used State side and not in the Pacific...........

Thanks. I recieved some feedback E-Mails tonight. One was from a Navy SEABEE who served on many of the major Islands in the Pacific, building facilities. He said, they had a couple of Jeeps that were Gray, with the SEEBEE seal on the hood. Another E-Mail was from a PT Boat friend of mine who served with Ron 27 for a time. He said that most of the Jeeps he remembers were GREEN, although several were Gray on BASE 17 in the Philippines, sometime in 1944-45..................

Hey Frank, try my buddy at Quarter Ton and Military - he rebuilds old military vehicles for museums and collectors. He is located on Lookout Mtn near Chattanooga / Lookout Mtn Georgia

He may have a paint number for you or something.

His name is Matt. Google him

Matt Fox Quarter Ton and Military Rising Fawn Georgia.

If you cant find him shoot me an email and I will pass on a phone number. Hate to post it without his permission. If you find an ebay listing in your search and its about military vehicles from Georgia chances are you found him. He lists a number in most of his ebay ads.

Thanks - Kent

I am a proud Army Strong Dad who has a deep appreciation for all who serve and have served our country.

Hey Frank,
The guys at Save the PT Boat (PT658) just finished restoration on a 1944 Ford GPW. The Jeep belonged to Al McCready, one of our founding members, and was donated by his estate to our group. Bob Alton lovingly restored it, with the help of several other crewmembers. The Jeep had been modified and sports a 6 cylinder Chrysler engine. We tried to get it back to reasonable restored appearance, but it had been so highly modified we had to take what we got and make it work. He researched it and painted it a Navy Grey. Here is what she looked like on Veterans Day during a parade where we took the Jeep up to an Elementary School during an Open House. Those are about ten 5 year old Kindergardeners in the Jeep. We were towing a Mark 13 Torpedo on a trailer behind the Jeep. I was elected to drive it that day. It was very cold! Here is also another photo I found of a Grey painted USN Jeep. I hope this is of some help. Jerry PT 658 Portland OR

Here is the other picture I found:

Jerry

Thank you for the pictures. The restored Jeep for your group looks awesome. Towing the Torpedo is a great idea, but I bet you were a bit cold, I doubt the Kids felt the cold at all............

I was elected to drive it that day.

I pictured you a bit taller Jerry... for safety reasons you may want to sit on a few phone books the next time.

Nice job Bob on the restoration!

Not a bad idea, but we are limited for room. Heck why not build BASE 17 while we are at it. I would only need my own MUSEUM to store it in. I dont want to say that too loud, Frank R will start building it...............
