Hello Message Board Members. I was looking through some old files we have been gathering here at the Save the PT Boat Inc PT 658 in Portland Oregon, and came across 4 PT Boat related Tech Manuals. I am mailing them to Rich Pekelney at HNSA so he can scan them for adding to the internet on their excellent website library of Tech Manuals for PT Boat Related equipment. The ones I found are pretty exciting:

TM 9-252 Army Single Mount Bofors 40mm

PT Boat 50 cal mount Mark 19 Mod 0 Weapons Pamphlet Dated 1942

PT Boat 50 cal mount Mark 19 Mod 1 and Mod 2 Weapons Pamphlet Dated 1943

PT Boat Hydraulic Operated 50 cal Machine gun mount made by Dewandre Company mounted on PT44. Dated 1942 This appears to be a copy that was on PT44, a 77 ft Elco Boat. The book is full of hydraulic drawings and sketches etc.

After about a month, when these Manuals are posted online, I will let you guys know. I know a lot of you modelers and historians are interested in seeing the details of these weapons systems as they related to the PT Boats. Jerry Gilmartin PT658 Portland, OR

Great Jerry, I'm really looking forward to seeing them. Especially the .50 manuals. Thank you for sending them to Rich for scanning!

Digging through Dick's ELCO plan collection, they show a "special ordnance" installation of an Army 40mm on the 174 and later on the 560-565. I'm not too familiar with the 40mm guns, is this a different gun from the 40mm usually installed?

Jeff, I'll second that--thanks, Jerry! Especially looking forward to the manual on the Dewandre turret.

Hey Jeff,
I am unsure of what the exact differences are between the single Army version of the Bofors 40mm cannon and the USN PT single barrel mount. I know (obviously) that the Army mount has a wheeled carriage and the Navy mount was bolted to the deck. But other than that, the weapons appear to be identical in their construction and operation characteristics. The TM9-252 explains the actual construction and operation of the weapon, and is loaded with photographs and drawings. I think about 95% of the information in the Tech Manual will apply to the Navy Mount as well. Jerry

Jerry:

A very nice find indeed, and I thank you for making them available to all of us here on the message board. I think this would be a good fund raiser for the boat. What do you think?

Cool, thanks from me too Jerry. And to Rich, what a great website.

You wouldn't happen to have a Mark 8 torpedo manual would you?
