I regularly click on PHOTOBUCKET to look at the PT boat related pictures. Whoever put them on did a good service to all PT boat enthusiasts. Since there are no caption for the picture, who can I contact
for more information? Also how do I get permission to use the pictures or give credit to?

Hey Victor,

Since no one has answered you...I'll take a shot. The pictures were put up by several different people so you'd have to be specific on the picture to get an answer.

Victor,

I have posted a group of PT Boat photos on Photobucket that can be viewed at the following link:

http://s426.photobucket.com/albums/pp348/Millman48/PT%20Boat%20Photos/

These pictures are all dealing with PT operations in the English Channel in support of D-Day. You may use any of them that you may need.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your email. I clicked on your village photo. Some of your
pictures have caption which is fine. however, I could not find your name
or email address. How can get in touch with you without going through
message board. My main question is if I found some picture I like on Villagephoto or Photobucket, how can I get in touch with whoever
put them on. I like to credit you for any picture I use. What's your last name?

Hi Victor . . .

I made Don Millman's link clickable, it should work for you now, go ahead and click it.

I regularly try to scan all the posts for photos that aren't displaying or for typed links to other locations that aren't clickable hyper-linked. But some times I miss them or have been too busy and not on the board to realize they're posted. Most individuals that post message do not understand how to make them clickable, so I try to intercede on they're behalf, and make them clickable or make their posted photos display. That is why many times you see the internet link in black and not clickable or a little icon and not an image.

Photos posted on the internet whether they be at PhotoBucket, here on the board or elsewhere, are NOT necessary owned by the individual that post them there. Many times the photos are scanned from all types of publication. I’m even sure I have seen scanned images from your published book, popup here and there. Photos could and are regularly shared amongst each other, including photos that have been scanned or purchased from the National Archives, Naval Institute or even PT Boats, Inc. Trying to trace them down and their real owners will be a monster, monster task, if even possible.

Technically the photos posted are very low resolution not compatable with modern day printing presses. You should contact your publisher for advice. As you know, I’ve been in the design/publishing/printing business for over 40 years, and the standard for publishing is a photograph at true size (used size), is a minimum resolution of 300dpi and in the uncompressed .TIFF file format as a grayscale or CYMK. Not as the typical internet photos which are 72dpi compressed (image Quality) .JPEG file as a RGB. The image may view very good on your computer screen, but you must realize your computer screen can only display images at 72dpi, a computer does not use resolutions any higher, they just throw out the data. However a printing press prints a high resolution image at a 200lpi (Lines per Inch) halftone screen requiring at least the very minimum of 300dpi. If you see a photo on the internet request the owner send you the original photograph (continuous tone, other wise none as a photograph print) or have a duplicate photograph print made. Then have the publisher make a professional high resolution scan, just like they did on your book’s first issue. The printer may not use conventional Litho film nowadays in lieu of digital files, but they still need the high quality originals as they did on the very first printing of your book.

Please check with your publisher, they will have very, very rigid photographic specifications/requirements.

Also check with the publisher’s Legal Clearing Department for their advice on use of images downloaded or otherwise copied from the internet.

All the best,
Dick Washichek . . .

Victor,

I believe the link to my photobucket album is now working. If it would be helpfull for you, I can make you a CD of the album and send it to you. I have done that for several others on this board would be happy to do it for you. My email address is :

Millman48@earthlink.net

As far as ownership, I purchased the photos at an estate auction. I believe them to be copies, and not originals. I am quessing that they originated from the archieve as I have seen some of them published previously as in Ron 34, A history of a US Navy Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron During World War II by Russel E Schuster.

They have been scanned at 300 dpi.

Hi Dick,
Thanks for your reply about downloading pictures from Photobucket
and the Message Board. I am not sure I understand 100% of what
you said, but I will contact my publisher and see what he wants me
to do. Wow, you must be a genius to know all that stuff.
Have a nice Thanksgiving.
Victor
