Greetings,
I came across a nice detail item for the Italeri PT Boat. Verlinden has a set of 40mm bofors canisters, ammo crates, as well as fired and unfired 40mm rounds. I've seen these 40mm canisters many times of the desk of PT Boats with the 40mm. Here's a link...

Thanks a lot for that link!

It appears that there are about 20 empty casings and 36 complete rounds. There are also 6 wooden crates and 6 metal ammo holders. The latter sure look a lot like what I need for my 6-pounder anti-tank gun. The prie for the set is only $9.95 US which is worth it, imho, just for the ammo and spent casings.

Cheers from Peter

Thanks David. I had already ordered this set for the PT-374 Green Island project. They were delivered to Frank Ryczek the other day. He said they looked great. We will be using them for the gun emplacement and the boat.................

Wow Frank, those look great! I wish I had some when I built my PT596 earlier this year. Only question is coming up with a good way to make them into 4 round clips? The metal ammo cans all come loaded with 16 rounds in 4 groups of 4 round clips so you can just pull the clip out and shove it into the feed chute of the loader and off you go! I was able to obtain four of those real ammo cans and when they are all loaded with 16 rounds of ammo they weigh just over 100 pounds! Does anybody know if they supply any of those metal 4 round shell holder clips as part of this kit? I am most likely going to buy the kit anyway and backfit my model. Thanks again for the information. Jerry PT658 Portland OR

Jerry

That brings up a good point about the ammo cans. I wonder how many of those cans were stored on the boats. I know each GM/1c pobably put enough ammo as to not run out, but I wonder what each boat carried for the 40MM Gun. Each can held 16 rounds at 100 pounds a piece, would add a ton of weight real quick if too many were carried...........

To Jerry's Question - The Lion Roar PT upgrade set contains 20 beautifully turned brass 40mm rounds - they are detailed to the point of being able to clearly see not only the rotating band but the nose fuse as well - as part of the overall kit they have a number of PE clips for the rounds. If you don't choose the full kit, Dragon USA carries a set of the same 40mm rounds for something under $20. They are not cheap but they are very well made. The full upgrade also has similar 37mm ammo. The longer the kit is out there the more after market parts become available - Garth mentioned not long ago that someone would soon be offering high quality items such as SO radar and other unnamed items, not only in 1/35 but other scales as well.

Hey guys!

Frank A. has ordered the Verlinden 40 MM shell cases, crates, and spent shell and I have received it and the set looks great.

I have always like Verlinden products and they have a lot of stuff that no one else offers. I especially like their figures!

This set of shell cases will be used with a 40 MM gun emplacement on the Green Island diorama Project. There is a lot left to build on this thing but it's going to come together.I'm glad I'm part of Frank A's team on this project!
