Greetings,
My friend Piotr Czerkasow of Master Model in Poland has made replacemnt .50 cal barrels for the 1:35 Italeri PT Boat. One of the sets has flash hiders which are just amazing. I'm don't know exactly where you may be able to buy them but Piotr I'm sure can help you find a dealer where you are. Here's a link to his web site which includes photos of these beautiful barrels.

Hi there.

Those barrels look great but there is no price given. Any idea how much they cost? They'd be great for the ancient 1/32 scale Lindberg PT-109 kit too as that kit really needs something that resembles .50 caliber guns.

Cheers from Peter

Better for the Lindberg 1/32 kit, and if you ask my opinion too good for the Lindberg kit, are his 1/32 .50 cal barrels. Sprue Brothers has them here in the US. Here's a link to them...

Very nice work indeed...

Now, he needs to make those .50 barrels in 1/72nd scale, and add the early PT tubular-style flash hiders to the 1/72nd and 1/32nd/1/35th barrels...

Probably not likely to see this in 1/72 scale. I hate to say it but I wouldn't expect to see the tubular flash hiders either. Piotr doesn't do these in less than 1/48 scale.

Aires once made some .50 cal barrels in 1/72 scale which included the tubular flash hiders. I grabbed some of those when I saw them and am using them on my 109 boat. Hopefully they release that set again.

On another note I think my comment about the barrels being too good for the Lindberg kit were insensitive. There have been some very nice builds made from this kit. Sorry if I offended anyone!

Take care
Dave

Ahoy there David.

Having built three of the Lindberg, ahem, Elco PT-103 Class boat models I can see why you would comment that those barrels are too good for that kit. If built out of the box you would be right as built out of the box you have a toy and not a model that is anywhere near what an 80' Elco PT-103 Class boat looked like. Yes, there have been many fine models built using that kit. The builders of them spent a *LOT* of time and effort getting their model to look good. I often wonder how many of those kits got started and were abandoned part way through the build when the builder fully realized just how bad that basic kit is. On the other hand that kit is responsible for getting many people interested both in PT boats and radio control operation of them. Perhaps that will be the greatest legacy of that kit -- kind of like the unsung hero of the RC crowd.

Cheers from Peter
