Hello PT Boaters,
Last Weds the crew of "Save the PT Boat" in Portland completed temporary repairs on the hull of PT658 and relaunched her into the Williamette River at the Cascade General Shipyard. We were assisted by Clark Caffel on his Tugboat "Ramona III" and the Campbell Cranes Company, as well as the riggers from Cascade General Shipyard across the lagoon from our base. Here are some pictures in case you are interested. We had two exciting moments when we discovered a leak in the engineroom below the Stbd engine oil cooler (it was a loose hose fitting) and then when we tried pulling the boat away from the cradle the engine orders got mixed up and almost ran the boat into the bottom of the cradle as it was being lifted up. We missed running into the cradle by about 1 foot. Just a litttle too much excitement in one day for this 65 year old boat!
Also, this weekend, we held a "NW PT Boaters Bull Session" sponsored by John Akin, and we took the boat underway with veterans/guests along for the ride. The boat handled well and passed our inspections with only minor problems noted. We had all three V12 Packard engines running and they sounded great. We are planning to replace the deck of the boat inside the boathouse this winter so this will be the last time for a while that the PT658 will be underway. Enjoy the pictures!

Great pix and work by your crew Jerry. Still like to get up your way and see that PT. Think 658 will be back in the H2O for the Rose Festival?

Jerry, the photos are just awesome. I love seeing the boat in her WWII Cradle, and enjoy it more that she is home in the water. Hats off to your Crew and the whole organization. Thanks for sharing. I know we are all concerned about the boats welfare............
