Dear Message Board
I thought I would post this because it really deals with a new subject. That subject is the money issue in regards to purchasing 50 Zippo Lighters. Some of you have come forward to offer money towards the over-all cost of $747.50 for the Lighters. The one time fee for set up is $120.00 and the shipping about $10.00. So, we have a grand total of $877.50.
Now, as I said I do have the completed art work and Lighter as it will look when finished. Zippo sent that to me last week. I can send the photo to anyone interested in this project.
At this point, we can see how much interest this brings, and I can start collecting money. If we reach our goal, GREAT!!!, If not, then I will refund the money. Iam in hopes that this will go thru. PT BOATS of WWII needs to be represented. As smoking is a big NO NO in this Country, the Zippo lighter has become more of a collector item then just a lighter to light your smokes. Thousands across the Country collect these lighters, which has become a pretty big thing. PT Boats Inc thought that because smoking was not good that they did not wish to throw money into this project. I looked at it as more of a collector issue. Hey, only a handful will own one of these special lighters if we only msake 50. I know I want to be one of those guys.
Please just give me a shout and give me your thoughts. If you have planned on sending me money, then do so. Every little bit helps. You can make a check out to Frank J Andruss and mail it to me at 16 Liberty Street, Feeding Hills, Ma. 01030. When and if we reach our goal, I will mail out a check to Zippo and the Lighters will be processed. Thanks again for your anticipated Interest.

Frank,
I saw one of these old "Peter Tare" Zippos on EBAY Item 170052255580. Were you aware of these? I am not sure but it looks like something from WW2. Is it possible that Zippo would waive the set up fee to re-issue a previously marketed design? It seems like they are charging for a set-up fee on the Walt Disney graphics. Just FYI. Jerry
PS Did you ever talk to Keyport about getting a Mark 13 torpedo for your display? (Re my post about PT658)

Jerry:
I have seen them on occassion on Ebay and I do know that Peter Tare did the same thing I am attempting to do. Order 50 Lighters. Peter Tare came up with that design, which although suits their needs, they ordered them for their group. To answer your question, these were not made during WWII. They are unique which is why I wanted to do this. Only 50 or however amount we make will be out to claim for those of us interested. In any event not many will own one.
I was contacted by the Museum about the MK 13 Torpedo, but they do not have anymore. I am attempting to see if she might have something else I can use. I would love to display a DEPTH CHARGE because they are smaller and easier to display in a small venue.

Dear Board:
A very nice donation has come my way, thanks to Kendall Strehle. This is the first check I have recieved to be used towards the Zippo Lighters. If you need my address, just give me a shout. I am in hopes that we can raise this small amount for our first order of 50 Lighters. Thanks Ken. You have started the ball rolling...............

I would be interested in buying 3, possibly 4. I'm estimating that $880 / 50 is about $20 each. Can you email me the design you have in mind? I'll be sending money after the holidays are done (no money till then - ha ha ho ho)
