Late in her service life, PT-156 mounted a quad .50 cal Maxon turret on the stern At that time, the starboard turret mounted a 20 mm. Does anyone know if the port turret was also converted to a 20 mm? I am converting the 1/72 Revell kit and need to know the port turret configuration.

Steve-

Glad you're building a RON 9 boat. I have seen quite a number of PT 156 photographs and none show her with the Mark 12 mount in the port turret. From my research I learned that the boats in the squadron (PT 153-162) converted their forward turrets to 20mm in late 1942 and early 1943. Neat mount - between the Mark 12 and the Quad 50, your 156 will be a super model.

TO STEVE S156:
SOUNDS LIKE AN INTERESTING CONVERSION, BUT WHERE DID YOU FIND A QUAD-.50 IN 1/72 SCALE ?

ALLIED COASTAL FORCES shows no boats with 20mm in the port turret, but I can't shake the feeling I've seen a photo somewhere of a boat with 20s in both turrets.....(NOT the 156, though).

Just found two photos of PT-195 with a quad .50 mount forward and a Mk 12 20mm in each turret.

Thanks, guys! Great stuff. Ross, Revell and Matchbox both issued a 1/76 scale M-16 halftrack. It is sometimes offered on Evil Bay and I think Squadron has the Revell kit. Not 1/72, but close.
