Hello PT Boaters and message boarders!
Just FYI we had a group from the USS Oyster Bay (AGP 6) visit Portland for their annual reunion and we set up and gave their group a tour of the PT 658 even while it is up on the cradle for repairs. I am posting a few photos here of the group when they came to see the boat on Friday July 24th. Just in case you may be interested. THere were about 30 members in the group on the whole.. We had a great time having them come aboard, and they were very excited to see the boat. Jerry PT 658

Cool Jerry, I bet you would have liked to have taken them out for a cruise... hope the repairs go well.
On the 2nd photo it almost looks like descriptions of some of the gentlemen were written above them. I bet the 4th guy from the left would of moved had he known.

Oh wow! Jeff you are too funny! Yes those are actually comments the marine surveyor wrote on the hull. He is talking about the butt joint on the horizontal planking! "Soft/ Loose Butt" That is pretty funny! I hope he does not see that photo! Maybe I should take it off? Jerry

Nice photo's Jerry. It sure looks like all had a great time, espically when those Packards were fired up. Do you have the Historians name from the group or a contact address. I would love to talk with the group to try and obtain some photo's for the book. Hope all is well and the repairs are going along smooth.............

Those photos gave me a pause. The guy previously mentioned, 4th from the left, looks exactly like my grandfather did, right down to the mustache, except that my grandfather was sized and dressed like the guy to his left (2nd from right). Deja vu.
So who's got a PT Boat on display to the public, starting in San Francisco and working out? Is it Portland?

Hi Richard,
Yes the closest US Navy PT boat from San Fran that is on display to the public is the one in Portland, OR. Although there are some WW2 Army Aviation Rescue "Crash Boats" that are closer. Also, there is PTF26 up in Rio Vista Ca on the Sacramento River. It is I think a 110 foot long aluminum Vietnam era boat. The next closest PT Boat to the West Coast is the PT309 at the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas (70 miles NW of Austin, TX). Then the PT305 in New Orleans which is not on display yet, and then the East Coast has Fall River Mass PT 796 and PT 617 and Kingston NY has PT48 and 728 and the rest of "Fleet Obsolete" (3 other boats) I am unsure if they are officially on public display yet.
