Here's a sneak peak at the PT-109 base which arrived today from the engraver. Progress is slow this time of year and I don't see it picking up steam any time soon. The boat is mounted in its disassembled state waiting for more free time to finish it off right. I've already decided I didn't like where I marked the water line so back to the sanding shop for cleanup and new paint. It's going to take a while to get to it but I will get to it. The engravers did it for $40 which included shipping it back to me whick I thought was very reasonable. I'm very pleased with their work. It includes the Navy seal, PT logo, and the names of each sailor on board the 109 at the time of her sinking. Stay tuned, we'll get there eventually!

Dave

The base looks wonderful and certainly adds to the Beauty of your work (or anyone's work). The price is fantastic and Iam wondering if you would share the source, so that we could have our own completed for differnt projects. I LOVE IT>.............................

Sure thing. The name of the company is called Laser Crafters. I would suggest reaching out to Ormond Barstow. His email is ormond@stampworldonline.com. His partner is Robert Folmer. Their web site is http://www.lasercrafters.com/.

It was a pretty easy project. I did the art work in MS Word and saved it as an Adobe file. The base is solid maple and was finished with two coats of clear wipe on semi-gloss polyurethane. I taped the art work where I wanted it on the piece and sent it off to them. They did their magic and it showed up at my office completed. I thought the price was reasonable and their work was excellent.

I still need to add a final coat of polyurethane to the base and make the Plexiglas cover. Oh yea... I need to finish the model too!

I'm glad you liked it.

Looks great, Dave!

If I may make a suggestion (hopefully without being considered a meddling goof) -- and you may intend to do this anyway -- I would face the boat in the opposite direction, with the bow facing left and the viewer looking at the port side of the boat, kind of like looking at the "driver's" side of a displayed car model. That way, the cockpit isn't blocked by the starboard turret...

Just a thought..
