Well I guess I should just sum up everything I need in one post. As some of you already know, i'm trying to restore the guns on PT 728 and i'm trying to gather equipment that the crews would of had on board. So i'll restate some old questions and ask some new ones.
1) what type of mount was used for the cockpit .30 cal machine guns?

2) does anyone know where I can get a 20mm ammo drum? I've emailed a few peopel but they haven't gotten back to me.

3) Anyone know where I can get ww2 life jackets? Again I emailed someone, but they've yet to get back to me.

4) how long after the U.S. got involved in WW2 did the PT boat crews switch over from the WW1 type helmets and did they keep them painted green?

5) did the radioman on the boat have a U.S.N talker helmet?

6) In a picture of JFK sitting on his PT boat, is he wearing a army issue HBT cap?

I am looking forward to many responces and maybe a few pictures. Thanks

Note that the 30 caliber machine gun was not a standard piece of equipment on a PT BOAT. As I told you before, most Gunners Mates simply jerry rigged them on a single piece of pipe, where the pintal mount simply slid into the top of the pipe.

2. I think you are talking about the standard issue M1917 Doughboy Helmet, which phased out sometime in 1942.

3. Several caps found their way into the PT Boat Crews, which was the Arny issue M1943, and the Navy HBT Ballcap style, or the Herring Bone Twill Mechanics cap, which is what I beleive Kennedy is wearing.

4. Radio Helmets were not worn by PT BOAT Radio Operators. These helmets were for shipboard use, although some very early PT Boats, used in the submarine hunting role had them. They simply were not needed on the PT Boats.

5. You might be able to strike a deal where someone from a Ship Museum would be willing to loan you a couple of 20MM Ammo Cans.

Opps by the way, most of the issue Helmets on the Boats were the standard issue OD Green. Navy Gray colors were generally used for ship board use, although I am sure they might have found there way onto the boats...........

I'm just putting this out there, but if anyone knows someone from a ship muesum, please ask them to contact me or give me their contact info. I've made a few attemps to contact ships about their 20mm ammo drums and they've yet to get back to me. Thanks
