update:
During WWII he served as PT-Boat captain, Lt. USNR, receiving a Commendation and four battle stars. For twenty years he was an advertising executive and film-producer in New York City. He is a member of Mensa, the high-IQ society.

Guys....this is not looking good for the home team.

He did command the 559 and 159. The 159 presumably Ted, after Brantingham (sp) ................

And, a member of Mensa?

He wound up crazy? Good lord.

Unfortunately, he was in PT Boats. Fortunately, he asked to be dropped from our mailing list in 1979. So he has had nothing to do with us since then.

Unfortunately this guy decided to make one last political statement before ending his life. Like many criminals who don't want to spend the rest of their lives in jail, he chose to end his life at the hands of police or in this case security guards. The guy was 88 and was too much of a coward to put himself out of his own misery.

Gary,

He's still alive. A guard was killed.

Guys;

I have been contacted by Steve Turnham, a CNN Producer who is following up on this story. He would like to interview any PT Vet or PT Historian on camera for their opinion of what has happened. Please contact him at steve.turnham@turner.com.

I dont think anyone can pass judgement on this man. What he did was a crime no doubt, but what was in his mind at the time no one will ever know unless he himself opens up. His being in PT BOATS in no way should tarnish the image of those who fought with the Mosquito Fleet. In fact, what he did today should not tarnish what he did 60 plus years ago. He still fought for his Country during WWII in perhaps the best wooden boats the World will ever know, and from what I have read won commendations for his actions.

What makes the mind snap like that, I hope none of us will ever have to experience. This man was not a bad man to begin with, but somehow built up a ton of hate and became pushed to the brink. Let us move from this subject and talk about more interesting topics. LIKE WOMEN IN THE WAR ZONE, HA HA...........

Wow!! Did this guy ever take a wrong turn on the highway of life. From a member of an elite unit that required guts and courage, to a hateful old crack pot who didn't have enough guts or courage to just crawl into some dark hole and off himself. At least he had enough foresight to request being removed from the mailing list. He let down everybody, his two crews, Peter Tare, PT BOATS Inc., The Navy and even himself. What a jerk. I hope he goes to trial, because if he croaks, he will be buried rating full military honors.
WHAT A DISGUSTING DISGRACE!
