Work has been a bit slow on the Elco Crane project as my friend Stan has been so busy with redoing his Kitchen. Things should move forward now that he is almost done. This picture shows all of the cross pieces just about completed, along with the Base of the Crane. Square's framed out on the base is where the Electric Motors and Winches will be attached. More to follow as it becomes available.

Yes Stan is certainly a talented fellow. I am going to post some shots of the sailing ship he is making. You won't beleive your eyes. Hand crafted from plans, with hand carved pieces. It just blows my mind..........

This is looking very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing it assembled with a boat and cradle attached.

OH MY GAWD! NOW "THAT'S " A SHIP MODEL!!!!

Being a ship modeler myself, and by the sternboard decorations I want to say that's a model of the "GOLDEN HINDE", Sir Francis Drake's flagship! Am I correct in saying so? Also what scale is Stan working in?

Outstanding work! How long has Stan been working on the model and when will he be finished?

No ...

If I remember correctly, it's a German or Swedish warship. I first saw it when it was in the framing stage. I'm amazed that it's this far along as he's making everything from scratch.

This one's for his own enjoyment he once told me.

Spoke with Stan on the Ship. This is the Fredrich Wilhelm ZU Pferde, a Dutch design built for Germany, as Germany at that time depended on Holland to build their ships.

This is a 2 decker Ship built around 1680 and has 58 Cannons as her armament. The ship is drwan at 1:75 scale, but Stan has built it souble the size at roughly 1:37 1/2. The Ship is 56 inches long and will be 48 inches high. The color scheme was taken from the Corel Model, Wappen Von Hamburg an identical Ship. Stan has made the Ship using, Walnut, Mahogany, Oak, and Basswood. Because oif several projects, Stan has been working on this Ship for several years and hopes to fnish her this year. along with my Crane.

After that Stan will be working on an 11.5 foot Aircraft Carrier for a Museum, all scratch built. I would say he will be pretty busy for some time to come.

Thanks for settting all of us straight on Stan's beautiful ship model!

Got but one question that's bugging the heck out of me, though! Did Stan cast any of the oramental pieces on or about the stern area of the ship model or are they "all" modeled one at a time?? There is a lot of the same fittings that I can see! It would be logical to cast all those pieces rather than making them one by one, right??
