I recently found this web site and need some help with a photo. The site address is http://skulljam0.tripod.com/ in the left hand margin is a list of tabs. Click on the one called Photos page 2. My question concerns the top picture. Can anyone identify the group of eight men in the picture.

The only thing I know for sure is that this is the crew of PT-19, the picture was taken in FLA before they headed to Cuba, and James Culp is in the back row. This was the shakedown cruise.

I tried contacting you thru the web site but you never answered. Is there another way of contacting you?
As for the picture, Often people put the names of the people in the picture on the back or someplace else. I can Identify one of them for sure. The guy standing just in front of Culp and his shoulder was partially blocking him was my dad, Doyle Smart" what I wanted to know mostly was if this was the group that went on to be the crew of PT 31. You had stuff on the web site that I have never seen before and I appreciate you putting it out there. I have some information, but it appears you have much more than I do.

Mark and TS:
I have copies of the Muster Roll of the Crew (RON 3) for the quarter ending 30 Sep 1941. I also have copies of the Report of Changes for RON 3 for the month ending 31 Aug 1941. Both James D. Culp and Doyle J. Smart are listed. I have separated the RON 1 crew from the RON 2 crew that was transferred to RON 3. There are 39 men from RON 2. So 8 of those 39 will be in the photo. That's the best I could do.
Here's the list of men reporting to RON 3 from RON 2:
Balog, John
Bash, Henry U.
Beliveau, Clayton N.
Burnett, Robert B.
Byrne, Edward P.
Chalker, Joseph
Conn, Leroy Ghear
Cook, William E.

DePlacid, Frank J.
Glover, DeWitt L.
Goodman, David
Grizzard, Herbert W.
Guyot, Dale
Harris, David W.
Hunter, Velt F.
Keath, Harry G.
Licado, Benjamin
Light, James D.
McEvoy, James A Jr
Monroe, Robert H.
Morgan, Theodore L.
Napolillo, Frances J Jr
Offret, Ellwood H
Pirkle, Willis S
Posey, William H
Regan, Richard A
Richard, Carl C

Smart, Doyle J., 346-64-32, Q.M.2c,U.S.N. was on the 31 boat when she went down on 19 Jan 41. I have copies of subsequent reports and personal documents regarding your father. He was a brave and good man; respected by many. Send me your email address (mark.culp@dcma.mil) and I will scan and email said documents to you.
