I don't know if you have read the latest edition of ALL HANDS as
yet , but this book is available in the ships stores. I had already purchased it from Amazon. I met this gentleman when he spoke to the Historical Society in our town. Very interesting.!!!! I've started browsing the book in the middle after he joined the Navy.

My brother, Andy Madsen, was CM1 when he returned home. He was with Ron 3(2). His papers all say Ron 3 but judging by the time frame it must have been 3 (2). I would sure like to know which bases he was on. If anyone has an idea I would sure like to know.

Carol;
RON 3(2) operated out of Tulagi Island, Guadalcanal which is in the Solomon Islands, they moved up to a base they called Searlesville, which was in the Russel Islands, then Lumbari and Bau Island Rendova, where the were mainly utilized as a training squadron.
Most of there intense combat for RON3(2) was at Tulagi against the Tokyo Express. If you ever get a chance to get to Kingston on the Hudson, NY. and your interested in PT's, check out Fleet Obsolete, they own 4 PT Boats and are restoring the last surviving boat of RON 3(2)....PT48, one of the first four boats of RON 3(2) to go into combat against The Express.
Take care,
TED

Ted.........

Thank you for your reply to my note. When my mother asked Andy what tthe war was like he gave a copy of "They Were Expendable" to read so she would have some understanding of what you all went through. I now have hr copy and have read it many times. I have since written for and received his war records and his medals, I made a spreadsheet and sent a copy to PT HQ
and his 3 handsome sons. He never spoke of his time in the Solomon Islands.
