Hi ya Pete-
I really like the new figures Pete. How's your PT coming along?
I have a concern for those modelers converting figures; Tamiyas, Dragon, Italerie and so forth. How about just head gear? I just can't seem to get the right look for my figures. How about pith helmets, ball caps, officers hats, "dixie cup" hats, straw hats and wharever else they wore in the South Pacific Bases. I think molded heads with the head gear attached would be fantastic! I'd like your take on this and also from other modelers out there as well. How about just a seperate set of head with the head gear? I'd think they would have a winner!

As many of the boys had pet monkeey's on the boats, I would love to see that same figure in Kaki pants, boondockers, and hat. Hmmm, now what to do with the girls............

Hi Frank and hi Frank J.
I have some Pith helmets from some Italeri Afrika Korps sets and Dragon Deutsch Afrika Korps.
Master Box often includes full heads as well as the heads that are cut off for helmets or hats. I like the full heads because I can drill out the helmet or hat and attach it at a jaunty or rakish angle.'
There is a Canadian company, Ulta Cast, based in Guelph, Ontario that makes very nice resin heads. I don't know if they have sailor's heads yet.
Nope, no sailor's heads. They do have two sets of bare heads with 1940's hairstyles and a set with bush hats (Australian style) two with the brims folded and a set of heads with British Officer's hats. All sets have five heads.
I was thinking that the women in the Waves set or from another set that is available already could be used in a diorama where the public is visiting a War Bond Tour PT boat.
Cheers from Peter

Hi Pete-
Those head sets look really nice. Any idea on prices for these sets?
As for the gals, I like the idea of a War Bond show. Now if they only had a head of Bob Hope and Jerry Collona- that would be a riot!!

Greetings,
This thread was of enough interest for me to register as a member and post a message. My father, Randall J. McConnell, Jr. (Randy or 'Mac') commanded the second crew of PT 361 in RON 27. He was able to develop his own film and make contact prints 'in theater'. I recently scanned over 100 of his photos and many would fit into this discussion of what the crew did, or actually didn't wear.
Given the picture of the model figure with a monkey, I'd suggest a Pacific monkey with a small body and long tail. Here's some pictures of Tojo, the 361 monkey along with crew members in various states of dress.
Dad is in the first three pictures, other members of the 361 crew in the remaining pictures. If anyone models smoking crew members, note that in the second picture Tojo is smoking a cigarette. This picture always fascinated us as kids; Dad's monkey smoked. In reality the monkey ate cigarettes - in the picture may father is holding Tojo's paws down. There's much more to the Tojo tale!
Dad is still hanging in there at age 88, but his aversion to typing has kept him away from the internet. I'll be visiting my parents in July and will show him this thread, I'm sure he'll enjoy it.
The last picture was taken at the coaling dock at Subic Bay. If there's ineterest, and as time allows I can post some of his other pictures.
Regards,
Randy McC (Randall J. McConnell III)

The pictures obviously don't post the same way as they do on other message boards I participate on. Any suggestions? Is there a place on this message board with instructions? I work from Photobucket and generally use the 'IMG Code', will try a different approach here.

I just found the image posting instructions and will re-do the original post.
Read the instructions first, where's the fun in that?
