Hello all,

It looks as if I'll have to find a new home for my website...Yahoo, in their infinite wisdom, has announced that they will be discontinuing their Geocities service. While I (or they) have no firm date as to when this will take place, rumors in the underground state that it may happen by the end of this summer.

In the meantime I'll be looking for another webhost to put my pages on. This is something that I had been looking into for some time anyway, because I had always been dissatisfied with the annoying ads, and I'm pretty sure all of you have been just as annoyed with the limited bandwith that makes the site unavailable during periods of heavy traffic. I'll keep you all informed as time goes on when I find a new host and migrate the old site to the new one.

Doin' a slow burn...

Good luck, Gene.

I know a lot of us PT buffs will be looking forward to the reopening of your excellent site with another internet web host. Wish I was internet-and-computer-educated enough to recommend one.

I'm also looking forward to the future publication of your proposed book on the early days of the PTs in the Solomons. It will be a damn good read, and an important PT history book, as your previously-presented research material indicates.

Thanks, Drew--I've been looking at a couple of possibilities. Right now, my only two criteria for a good host is one, enough bandwith to support huge amounts of web traffic, and two, economy (as we all know, times are tight right now...)

The book has been on hold--I've been dealing with a lot of personal issues these last few months. I still need to do some document and photographic research both at Headquarters and at the National Archives. The plan is to go to Memphis in July, and DC in October.

Hey Gene,
Speaking for most all of us here on the Message board, I have really been appreciative of your most excellant website for several years now. It is one of the most authoratative sites around on the subject of PT boats. I want to encourage you to "Keep up the good fight!" And dont let the bas___ds get you down! OK well here is hoping that you find a satisfactory provider in the near future and good luck in your search.

Web hosting?? I switched to very progressive web hosting service called 1and1.com after doing a lot of research. They seem to be the most professional, secure and much cheaper than anyone else I found. Do your own investigation, of course, but don't overlook these folks. Good luck

Hi Gene . . .

If you don't mind a sub-domain I can host your site on my business site.
The URL address would be:

http://pt-king.gdinc.com/

Actually this link above is live and I have swiped the "comcardiv1" section of your geocities site and uploaded it up on my site (in the pt-king sub-domain portion). There no charge, its free. I have plenty of storage and bandwidth. There won't be any ads or any of those damn geocities time-outs because of bandwidth restrictions. If you want it it's your space and I'll get the "pt-king" section uploaded also. it takes some time to strip out some specific geocities coding oout of the files and retag all the photo links. Later I'll figure out "FTP" access to your sub-domain, still not sure how that works.

Oops, too fast on the trigger.

Dick, I really appreciate this. I also ment to ask, if I want to upload some new stuff, how would I go about it? My plans for this summer are a trip to HQ for anothe document and photo hunt, and DC in October, and I'm sure I'll find something good to add to the site.

Thanks again,

Gene K.
