I am in Washington DC this week and I plan to visit the National Archives. Does anyone have any experience with their procedure or should I fly blind? I wrote them last week to warn them about my visit. I told them I was interested in:
1. Squadron 9 (I spelled it out for their benefit)
2. Action reports
3. Deck logs
4. Photographs from the Solomons

Of course I am particularly interested in PT-154.

Any other suggestions of what to do there? If I find anything I let you know.

Nat;
Some photos of Hank Brantingham and PT 159 would be cool. A photo of Bud Liebenow at wheel of PT 157, Also Micheal Pessolano and PT 155, with some shots that include Boats on the boat.
Take care,
TED

Nat,

Any photos of the early PTs in the Solomons would be great -- personally, I'd love to see ones of those Ron 9 boats with their SCR-517A "beehive" radars -- particularly ones that haven't seen the light of day yet in any publication(s).

Nat,

I am going to the National Archives next week to do the same type of research on Ron 10. I will be there April 30th through May 2nd. Will you be there then?

I am taking a laptop and a flatbed scanner, based upon the advice of others.

This is probably an obvious questions or statement but you do know you need to go to the Archives in College Park, MD for this. Not the one in Washington,DC. Right?

Nat,

I forgot to mention in my previous post that you should go to the film section and look at these two films. Both appear to have shots of Commander Kelly and his boats. I am ordering three other films. They are expensive to get reproduced, but these might be something you are interested in.

Nat,
I would email Lance Zedric from the Alqamo Scout organization. He was there a few months ago and could be of some help to your questions. Here's his email address: zee61@aol.com
Good luck!

Lance and I were at the National Archives last year. We spent a week. I mostly stayed on the still photos floor. Lance worked looking for documents. We did pretty good.

The employees on the photo floor are great. They can help you get started. On the documents floor their are Archivist that can get you started. Though I would email Lance to get some good tips.

The floor with the film footage is so so. They weren't very helpful.

Do bring a laptop and a flatbed scanner. You won't be able to carry anything in a case or bag inside the rooms.
