Good morning, all

Recently found some interesting items while doing my periodic web-surfing for anything PT related. Some of this has been out a while, and may be already known to some of you. This post is for the benefit of those who haven't, or probably saw these items and couldn't find the website again.

For the research-minded, the Historic Naval Ships Association has a fine collection of Navy tech manuals, as well as a few plans. There are even a 10-page set of plans (in downloadable PDF format) of PT's 5, 6, 564, the 76-foot Higgins PT prototype that would eventually become PT-70 of Plywood Derby fame, and Wayne Traxel's drawings of PT's 48 and 61. Just click on the link that says, "Booklet of General Plans".

There is also a link for National Archives finding aids for what appears to be every Navy ordinance tech manual from 1818 to 1967. I haven't gone through the entire list yet, but I imagine the finding aids for manuals for items such as PT gun turret mounts, torpedo tubes, torpedo racks, torpedoes, smoke generators, and so on can be found. This will come in handy if you plan a trip to the Archives to do some research.

Some of you may be familiar with HyperWar--for those of you who are not, it is a website that has a lot of WWII official government documentation published online. One of their latest postings is the second release of the Motor Torpedo Boat manual, dated 1 February 1943. The date is somewhat significant in PT history; that night the Guadalcanal PT's would have their final fight with the Tokyo Express.

Finally, for the modellers--I found this site while I was looking for references for working model torpedoes for my 1/20 scale Higgins boat. Check out their Elco PT Boat, the Schnellboot, a Coast Guard sub hunter, a couple of futuristic boat models that are just fantastic looking, and the six (that's right, SIX!) generations of working electric torpedoes they have devised for the PT and Schnellboot, as well as working depth-charges and rockets for the others. As a modeller myself, needless to say...I'm jealous.

Oh, crapness...I posted too soon and the links aren't live. CRS and creeping senility strike again.

Dick--help, please?

Got ya' covered Gene . . . and thanks for the links.

For those who would like to make their links clickable just do the following:

You have to type url within square brackets at the beginning with no spaces. Then type /url within square brackets at the end of the link with no spaces.

Below is a typical clickable link:
http://www.ptboats.org

below is a photo image of what the actual TYPED LINK looked like before actually posting it:

All the best,
Dick

Hey Gene-

I just checked out the site for the scale working torpedoes. Very nice! These are 1/20th scale? I wonder if they make 1/32nd scale and what the cost would be?

Very interesting stuff there!
