Hi there.

I'm still trying to find out where the exhausts were on PT 196 when it had that auxilary gas tank aft of the stern. Anyone know?

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder

I think that it blocked the exhausta was one of the reasons why that 'trailer' never worked. It blocked the exhausts which caused the engines to run hot or something like that.

But, what do I know?

Common sense told me that the Elco engineers could not be that stupid.
They should know with the exhausrs blocked, you can't even start the
engines. We know they did test run the boat and dropped the idea for
some other reasons as stated in my book (page 121). Re-routing the
exhauses is easy, but to where? We need a picture to settle this
question. There might be a design drawing out there somewhere.

I wonder if they nicknamed it the Ascender, like they did the Curtiss XP-55 canard aircraft, due to its appearance from the stern as having a really steep reverse gear.
