This was made by my friend Stan Pienkowski, who makes the majority of my models for the Exhibit. this was however was scratch built for a customer. One of you guys asked about the boat, due to it's add on external Gas tank. Well, as ugly as it looks, here it is. I love the bow and the lines: GET RID OF THE TANK.

OK Frank, let's get on the same base line here- when you say the model that Stan made of the 196 is "scratch" is it 'entirely' scratch or did he start off with a kit of some sorts Lindberg, Italerie or a fiberglass hull and then add the scratch built ammo lockers and the aux. flue tank??

Either way, the 196 model that Stan made is drop dead beautiful!! Stan really does some nice work, Frank! It's little wonder that you have him build all the models for your exhibit at the museum.

Now that I know what that fuel tank looks like and how Stan made this one, I need to make on for my 196 as well. Very sharp! UHHH Frank, I kinda like that aux. fuel tank! Gives the whole model a different look.

Hi Frank

When I say that Stan built a stratch built model, that's the real deal. He takes your plans and builds it to those plans. Unless you give him a kit, like the Italeri, he builds them right from the ground up. PT 196 is built from the ground up, using plans and photo's. He is that good, a master when it comes to building. You should see some of his work, the Tall Ships, German E Boats, you name it, he does it. Stan just got done doing a project for the Naval War College Museum. I will try and send you some photos of it.............

Awesome!

Where did the engines exhausts go when the auxilary fuel tank was attached to the stern of the boat?

I am posting a few pictures of the boat Stan did for the Admiral at the Navy War College Museum. He built it from photographs he took of the real boat. Simply awesome.

The boat has working lights inside her. It is a work of art. I took these photo's while the boat was under construction. I wish I had that Talent . . . .

Frank

I wish I had time to post some of the other scratch built boats he had built. Maybe when I go over to his house, I can grab the pictures of some of his work to post. He has some outstanding work, including his submarines, E-Boats, Tall Ships, and other goodies. Have you seen the wonderful work that Alex Johnson did on my PT 41..............

I was told the exhaust system stayed the same as there was enough clearance between the stern and the bolt on Aux Tank. I have never seen a drawing showing this however, so it is just word of mouth.
