Ahoy there fellow message board members-

I was looking at the images of PT boats on the PT Boats site and I came across an image of PT- 196 that puzzles me no end!

The image of PT-196 shows her in the Bayonne River with the Bayonne Bridge in the distance, my old stomping grounds when I was a kid!!

Being that the 196 was the last of the contract boats, ELCO wanted a very special "measure" and came up with the eight wavy arms on the sides of her hull.

Now look very closely!! There is something attached to the stern of the boat that I have never seen before. The wavy lines seem to mesh and blend into this "THING"!!!

What the heck is that???? Is that a rubber bladder tank or something ???

Frank: Yes, that is an experimental aux. fuel tank. Proved to be too unstable for operational use.....

Frank;
Will is right, but I always thought this would be a different and cool thing to model.
Take care,
TED

Ted -

Frank Andruss has a model of the 196 that I think has that. Built by Stan Pienkowski of Vernon, CT.

Garth

Stan built the model of the 196, with the external gas tank attached. I always thought it a bit ugly, but just to clarify, the model was not built for me but another customer. I will try to get a picture of it from Stan.
