My wife recently brought home from the public library a thick, newly-published (2008), 480-page, 6-pound, large-format "coffee table" book on the history of the Warner Bros. film studios, which seemingly features every film made at that studio from its creation in 1918 (formally incorporated in 1923) up to 2007.

Every film, that is, except the only Hollywood commercial film ever made about a living, sitting President of the United States (until Oliver Stone's 2008 hatchet-job "W") -- 1963's "PT 109."

There is nary a mention -- anywhere -- in this massive book's text, hundreds of photos, or index, of the movie "PT 109!"

I've heard that "rights" problems are delaying the release of an official studio DVD of the film, but to omit it from this huge, supposedly comprehensive history of Warner Bros. films is inexplicable.

There are two pages (and three photos) in the book devoted to "Big Wednesday," a mostly forgotten 1978 surfing movie, but no mention of "PT 109" at all -- unbelievable!

For most of us here, PT 109 was the movie that changed our very lifes and lead us to our love of the boats. How they can omit such a movie that involved a US PRESIDENT is beyond me. An unkown movie of a surfer seems to be much more important these days I guess. After all, its more of a top priority that our children learn about hanging 10, then a future President who operated a PT BOAT in the South Pacific.

Frank,

It's a war movie.

Don't you know that it's not 'cool' or politically correct to honor a war movie.

Thats the problem with this Country, we care way to much about what a few people think. I would have prefered to have been around during the 1940's then today, even with the World at War.

Me too.

It was a more honorable time. People said what they meant and meant what they said.

And, when they gave their word, they kept it.

And, when a policeman said STOP, you actually STOPPED!

I came across an earlier edition of this same Warner Bros. film history book ("The Warner Bros. Story") published in 1979, in a used bookstore the other day. This edition, which is identical in size, weight, and length to the 2008 edition I previously mentioned, DOES have "PT 109" listed in the WB films made in 1963.

In the 1979 edition, "PT 109" gets a 1/4 page black & white photo (Cliff Robertson and Ty Hardin running through sand/palm trees, dodging bomb explosions) and a facing-page description/review approximately the same size as the photo.

The description/review of the film is generally negative in tone, implying the film was a disapointment with critics, the public, and the studio.

I wonder if it would be possible to find out who edited the book and ask. If someone can email me the isbn number and the info in the inside cover about publisher etc, I would be happy to shoot them an email or something. - Kent
