Hi All, Has anyone ever posted a picture of the archway in Tulagi that mentioned the subject. If they have, I missed it. If available, I would appreciate seeing it posted again.

Russ: How about the sign as you entered Tulagi harbor - high on the bluff on the port side. "Kill Japs, Kill Japs, Kill more Japs etc.
Signed Bull Halsey. I can't recall now the rest of the quote on the sign. I am sure someone on the board here can refresh my memory.

Nate, the picture of Tulagi that you posted brought back memories of the wonderful officers that we were blessed to have in the PT navy. As I see the men walking along, I remember me walking along that same path and a question that I asked one of the men walking in front of me.
I was new, just shipped up from Noumea, New Caledonia, drafted into MTB Ron 9.
I tapped the sailor in front of me addressed him as "mate", and asked him a question. He obliged and gave me an answer. A sailor who, at that time, was coming in the opposite direction overheard me , and hesitated until the sailor of whom I asked the question had moved along
. He stopped me and asked "Do you know who you just called "mate" ? I of course had no idea and answered "no"..He said, That is Hank Brantingham, the executive officer of ron 9."
Brantingham never scolded me for not giving an officer the respect that I should have. I guess He knew that I looked like a stranger and that I was new and didn't recognize a sailor in overhalls as anyone more important than a member of PT boats.
That was one example of the close relationship of the officers and the enlisted men inPT's.
