Bradley,

I know you are proud of your grandfather, and well you should be. I like the way the President of the United States put it once. He was speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. Of those World War II veterans who had gathered to remember D-Day he said, when they were young, they saved the world.

Bradley,

I see by your grandfather's posting that you're 18. I'm 49 myself, and may I just say that I am glad to see a teenager interested in a topic like this. Please continue to be so, as it is IMPORTANT that everyone knows the history of this nation. Most of the teenagers I know and meet do not think that WW2 (or any history) history is boring and does not have a bearing on their lives and that if you know it - that you're not cool ...

But, we all need to remember and understand that what these veterans did, men like your grandfather and my own father and former President Bush's father did in WW2 does have a direct impact on all of our lives, even after 60 some odd years on ...

Thank you, you've just given me hope for your generation. My own 25 year old nephew didn't even know that there was an actual plot to kill Hitler in 1944. He thought the movie with Tom Cruise was purely fiction like one of his MISSION IMPOSSIBLE movies ... which scared me. No school really teaches History.

I always feel good when I see a young man take such an interest in what their Grandfather did during WWII. It is vital that the future generations continue to keep the PT BOATS in the public eye. You can learn so much by talking with your Gramps and listening to what is said here on the message board. May I suggest that you try and purchase several books that are on the market on the boats. Your knowledge in no time will be advanced enough to post your own messages and questions on this board. Good luck Bradley, your Gramps is tops in our eyes.

WELCOME ABOARD, BRAD.
MOST AMERICANS COULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PT BOAT AND A PT CRUISER. IT'S ENCOURAGING TO FIND A YOUNG PERSON WHO APPRECIATES THE SACRIFICE THAT VETERANS HAVE MADE FOR THIS COUNTRY.
(DON'T LET THE "OLD NAVY" SWEATSHIRT FOOL YOU, THOSE PT GUYS ARE STILL DAMNED DANGEROUS...)

Wow, that is great that you are interested in PT's Bradley. Like others have already expressed, WWII defined what the world is today. Our entire nation came together in a way that was incredible at the time, and if we choose to remember the truths of our history, it is no less miraculous today. The best way to learn history is first hand - and you are fortunate to have a grandfather who served our country admirably in WWII. Earl and others on this message board have graciously shared so much of themselves, their knowledge of PT's and the war in general. I know you are proud of him - and he of you. I am glad that you have a close relationship; keep it up, and you will likely develop a desire to share with future generations what took place in those critical days 64-68 years ago. Very happy that you posted your message Bradley.
