Going through my Uncle Howard's pictures still trying to close in on any details about his time in Ron 33, I came across 2 separate pictures (one of him & one of a squadron mate/friend) beneath an over head sign that reads Camp Shaw Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 33. Doing a quick internet & PT site(s) check I haven't come up with any info on Camp Shaw(where & when it existed). I figured the incredible knowledge that is this forum would make short work of it.
Thanks again to all that make this forum such a great source of information & to ALL our vets who have done & do, to keep us free everyday!

I have no clue about this camp but it makes me wonder. PT 495 of Ron 33 was named Miss Fury. It was renamed Gentleman Jim after Jim Shaw was killed manning the 50 Cal. I wonder if they named that Camp after him?

I seem to remember reading (somewhere) that the camp was indeed named after Jimmie Shaw. I'll see if I can come up with the source.....

I'm not sure if the camp was named for "Gentleman Jim's" namesake or not but this is part of his story.
James Shaw Jr. was an 18 yr old MoMM2c aboard PT495 of Ron33. Ron 33 entered combat in July of '44 and was to patrol the Aitape-Wewak area of New Guinea. After an unevenfull first patrol, PT495, with boats from RON 7 and 8 got into a fight with shore batteries and James Shaw was killed while manning the starboard 20 mm.
In honour of their fallen brother, the crew of the PT495 chose to renamed from Miss Fury to Gentleman Jim.
This is the actual nameplaque from the 495 on display in Mass.
This is a photo of Gentleman Jim with his twin sister and mother.
Rest in Peace, James.

I knew the story of Jim Shaw, but never thought about this possibility.
Thanks for all the replies.
