In about 1978 I found a converted PT moored next to either the Rt 35 or Rt 70 bridge over the Manasquan River in New Jersey.It was painted all red and the name on the transom was either "Man-o-War" or "Man of War".It had a very "Hard" chine unlike the 80' Elco and was definately not a Higgins. After I researched a little I realized it had to be either a 70' or 77' Elco. I went back to talk to someone about it and it was gone.Someone at the restaurant next door said it had been sold to a Jungle Safari place in Florida "or something like that" and that was the last I saw of it.
Could it be the PT 48? Any sign of red paint or a name on the transom?
Incidently, the guys involved in that project deserve a lot of credit and have my admiration. We all owe them for folowing through on a job I'm sure we all wish we could do. Thank you!!

Mike;
The answer to you question is no. The sometime between April 1947-November 1953 she was moved from New Jersey (probably Cape May area where a number of RON 4, RON 22, and RON 29 PT's wound up, being docked/stored. Many were owned by a man named Tom Laskey, However, Palmer Scott owned PT 48 and PT 40) to Miami, Florida.
From 12 /15/57 - 6/27/85 Ex- PT 48 was owned by Mr. Jack Chayne and she was named FLAMINGO I(however, from 11/10/53-12/15/57 she was named SEA GARDEN). He also owned Ex- PT 40 during the same time frame and 40 was named FLAMINGO II. Both boats spent this time in the Miami area. Jack Chayne owned 48 since 11/10/ 53, and also PT 40.
Jungle Queens bought PT 48, which was already in Miami on 6/27/85. I can't prove it yet, but I believe they bought PT 40 also, I don't think the two boats were split up until my friend Bob Fears bought PT 48 on April 17, 1990. I am still looking for info and what happened to PT 40. If anyone has a clue what became of PT 40, please let me know, but she is MIA as of April 17, 1990.
Take care,
TED
