If you're one of the lucky individuals that have gotten here to the website and message board this is basically a mute subject:

HQ's internet provider and web hosting company, Comcast, has recently made changes AGAIN, like the last time an absolute debacle, resulting in almost no competent technical support and little sympathy. The old Email servers have been replaced with better and great servers, oh yeah and great new Microsoft software to better run them (mistake one and two) - yes that's why all the problems with email. Please excuse the problems.

The DNS servers have also been changed and this is causing most of the problems. The DNS is Domain Name Server, it is used to change all the fancy URL names and converts them to numbers, IP numbers that is. The numbers are what the internet computers use to communicated. Whenever a DNS changes, it usually takes about a day (up to three days) to propagate, we are at 4 and counting) for it to recognize a URL like www.ptboats.org and translate it to the IP so computers know where to go and how to resend you what you requested. Like getting to the message board and posting and reading messages. This new server is causing enormous problems by not performing correctly most of the time. If you’re still having occasional problems please try the following. If you know some one that hasn’t been on the board lately please check with them and copy this post’s text and email it to them . . . the individuals not getting on the board just keep getting a message “Can’t Be Found” so please try the following:

If anyone needs access they will have to at the very least “Clear the Web Browser Cache, Cookies and History so on and so on”.

In Windows Internet Explorer 7:

Open Web Browser

Go to Tools in the Menu Bar

Cursor down to Internet Option, and click

On the General Tab look down to Browsing History and click the Delete Button – a new window will open.

The new window will have five buttons in a row and two buttons at the bottom, the easiest way is to just click the Delete All Button – another window will open asking Are you Sure . . . Click Yes.

The windows will change back to Internet Options Window – Click the bottom button - OK

Quit your Web Browser - Internet Explorer 7

Restart you browser and navigate to message board
http://www.ptboats.org/cgi-local/sitenetbbs/netboard.cgi
Everything should work if not, repeat above.

For Explorer 6 – I just don’t remember how to do it, but it should be similar to above – Tools – Internet Options – Maybe, Advanced????

On the MAC is simple – Open Safari, Under the menu bar click on SAFARI then cursor down to clear cache – its done, quit Safari and reopen open it, Walla. . . .

Thanks,
Dick . . .

Hi Dick.

A few minutes ago I unplugged my modem and plugged it back in a minute later. Since I did that I can get here to the site using the same bookmark as I did prior to the changes. I have IE 6 so that might work for any others who contact you looking for help.

BTW, did you know that Internet Explorer is the browser of choice for all religious groups? No, really it is! They all want the wholiest browser available.

Cheers from Peter

Dick,

I have been using Firefox and I have also at times been getting a message that the website can not be found. It has opened twice tonight without problem. I have a setting to eliminate history each time that Firefox is shut down.

QM,

I've been having the same problem on and off on with my MAC, but a simple empty of the cache file fixes it quick for MAC users.

It is clear the DNS servers are messing with the proper through put. When some one types in a URL the word name gets tag asking for all computers for a server which contains that name. Normally it captured with in micro-seconds and that DNS translates ptboats.org into a set of number then direct the query to computers asking please answer this query if you know these numbers, and within micro-seconds a computer holding our website answer back "here it is". But somehow the server we've been put on is having problems. Not being an IT guy I'm forced to wait for Comcast to recognize the problem then if they know what is causing the problem to fix it - after they're being paid for it. As usual we're just held cative - kind a like this Stim-package congress is cramming down are throats. It has a lot of things we need but half of it is just plain old dodo.

Hi Jerry . . .

It is still very spotty. I'm having no problem accessing the site form my MAC which is my primary computer. However sitting next to it is my PC running Vista and Explorer 7 is having extreme problems. Every time I quite the browser then reopen it later - I can't get the the site without going through the same old rig-a-mo of having to clear all the cache and so on.

However If I don't type in the http://www. and only type in ptboats.org I can get to the main website, but the message board part of the site required full paths meaning it need http://www. Comcast as to have some type of bad record or something ? ? ? ? ?

It is really messing with us.

Man, for a couple days I thought the site had been hacked and
taken down by some anti-PT goons...

Glad you got us back on line, Dick.
Cheers,
