Joe:

Although I appreciate your tireless effort in producing a great deal of information, I am totally confused about your last post. Number one, who are you talking to, and number two, why did you choose such negativity to be posted on this message board. Your message is one of sarcasim and certainly does not bode well with those of us who are dedicated to the men who served on our PT BOATS, BASES, and TENDERS.

As Dick wrote, many here have served in the Military, so you do not have the market cornered on that. I thank you for your service to our Country, but I for one do not appreciate your last post. What Gives Joe?

Sounds to me as if we are all in violent agreement, as the saying goes. We all agree that PT boats are great, that PT sailors were extremely brave facing gunfire in open wooden boats (something Joe's books really brought home to me), and that everyone here respects and appreciates veterans and the sacrifices that they have made. Let's all stand down for a moment.

NO, we won’t all stand down. We don’t pretend to believe PT boats were the greatest, fastest, driest or meanest, nor do we believe the PT vets were the bravest. After all the ground-pounders had a mere hole in the dirt, and the flyboys had a false sense of security provide by a very thin skin of aluminum when they faced the same menacing gunfire.

We just have a very deep, deep appreciation for the lines, style and purpose of PT and it’s men.

As for standing down, gee, that's what I usually do when tempers flare ...

It appears you haven't taken your own advise and haven’t stood down, as yet. Maybe, you're not as passionate as myself, and your condescending attitude is not appreciated . . . need I say "gee" . . .

Your damage control and self-interest are clearly noted.

Cordially,

Dick . . .

This is why online discussions can be a pain, because people read things into others' minds that are simply not there.

For the record, I have no intention of being condescending. I am simply suggesting that name-calling is a poor use of everyone's time and that everyone involved in the thread should knock it off.

I hope most readers will notice that I personally have not called anyone any names, nor have I suggested that anyone has bad motives for anything. In fact, I have been trying to point out that everyone probably has good motives for what they are saying. I think this is kind of a ridiculous argument because it's pretty obvious to me as an outsider that your common interests hugely outweigh your minor differences.

Also for the record, I don't feel any need whatsoever for damage control because I am 100% sure that anyone on this forum who is interested in the books will buy them if they want to, regardless of how many angry posts there are in this thread.

As for self-interest, well, I suppose I might as well plead guilty, but, please, use a sense of proportion. What either Joe or I say here, in one particular thread on one particular forum, will have very little to do with the success of the books, they will stand on their own merits.

Tough crowd! ;-) Now I will follow my own advice (and yours!) and sign off.

Cordially,

Fred Z.

In an effort not to further bore the members of this message board with this discourse caused by an outrageous post by your author, I wish to end it. Believe me I have volumes more to say about your previous posts. But as a favor to my fellow members, I find it more important to discuss the men, women, boats, bases and tenders of this admirable service.

Yes, this board is tough. If your skin isn’t thick, don’t read or post. As for “outsider” there are no outsiders. If you took the time to register and post, you are a member just like the rest of us. And just like the rest of us, you are held accountable to all members for your posts.

Hi Joe and all authors,
I know how tough it is to find a publisher. It took me five years because
at that time JFK was not president yet. The first edition of my self-printing book was the very non-government published book on the subject. A
good publisher will work with you to design the book to your liking. I was
90% in agreement with my publisher. The truth worth of a publisher is
marketing. Whether the book sells good or not depend entirely on the
skill and experience of the publishing company and the catalog.
In closing I like to say that with all the time, effort, and frustration all
authors went or will go through, we need all the help and support from
all of you like I am getting now.
Cheers,
Victor
