HELLO SAILORS!
I am the oldest daughter of PTBOATER Motor Machinists Mate 1st Class, Jim (James J) Ver Kuilen, celebrating his 89th birthday today in cold Appleton, Wisconsin (-42 F) who served in WWII PT 187 and PT 126, RONS 6, 9 & 12--Solomon Islands, Guadacanal, more. If there are any mates of my father "out there", I know he'd love to hear a line or two from you on his birthday. He is doing well, in fact, still riding his motorcycle up until early last summer My father was born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada and became a US citizen and joined the U.S. Navy specifically for PT Boat training in Boston as WWII began. Thanks to all of you for your fine service in keeping our country safe--best wishes to you PTBOATERS!! GOD BLESS and Hugs, Nancy R. Ver Kuilen, Appleton, WI

Thanks for your note. I will ask him if he remembers your grandfather, John McKay. Perhaps they were on the same PT126 at the same time. My Dad is now 90. You are replying to a posting I put out last year in 2009 when he was turning 89. I put out another one this past January 14, 2010. I am involved in the NE Wisconsin OLD GLORY HONOR FLIGHTS for WWII Vets enabling them to see THEIR WWII Memorial in Washington, DC finished in 2004. These charter flights are national and are free to all WWII Vets...I am going along as Guardian to look after a few Vets for the day. We will likely depart from the world EAA headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with TV crew who will be live streaming coverage. Their are 5 flights scheduled this year. Time is of the essence since we are losing these WWII vets at almost 900/day. We owe so much to all of the WWII vets! Take care and I'll see what my Dad remembers....Nancy

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this subject. I mentioned it to my Dad and he doesn't remember that name. At least we tried.
