I Dream of Jeannie ruled all, I kept thinking that if I stared hard enough I could see something naughty beneath that gauzy outfit... Eventually Babs was replaced in my dreams by Goldie Hawn on Laugh-In but we sure had a good run.

What sticks the most in my mind regarding 60s TV was the news reports on Vietnam. I never stopped being horrified by the newsreels and casualty reports.

I can see vets not liking MsHale after having experienced the real deal which definitely wasn't a laughing matter.

Interesting about Borgnine's reason for doing the show and that it was going to be a drama.

Its funny how the public sometimes percives the PT BOATS. They see things on TV and right away they think it must be somewhat true. Case in point. I was doing a three day Exhibit one year, when several guys my age came up and asked me why I did not have anything in the Exhibit about PT 73.

It caught me off guard for a moment, when I realized they were refering to Machales boat. These guys really thought that this was how things were during the War. I spent the next three days informing those that asked about Machales Navy and PT 109, that one was a comedy, the other although somewhat true had many facts wrong. I used to get angry when people tried to associate PT 73 with the real PT Navy, but I realized if not for the Comedy of Mchales Navy, and PT 109, folks might not have a clue as to what the boats were. This is why, so many people on this board, and groups like PT 658, PT 728, and our own PT Boats Inc have worked so hard to educate the public about the role these speedy wonders played. Educating these young kids today is the only way we can keep the memories alive for those brave men that served in the PT Fleet.

True Machales Navy was a funny show, but that all it was. It was never intended to try and get the public educated about the PT Boat Service, no more then Hogan's Heroes was. I have spoken to several PT Boat Vets that did not like the show, but then again, others thought that although it was certainly not how things were, they found it funny.
