PT 48 is in the process of being rescued down in Florida by members of "Fleet Obsolete" from Kingston, NY. Tim Ivory is the lead man on this project.
She will join PT 728, 615 and 459 in Kingston in a week or so. This is a huge undertaking. Tim and his crew have put in countless hours building a steel cradle up in Kingston. It was than disassembled and loaded on to a truck and driven down to Florida where it is presently being reassembled under 48's hull. After 48 is safely secured into the cradle it will be loaded on to a tractor trailer for the trip up to Kingston.
There is a little info on the website, http://www.pt728.com/
Also, the entire event is being documented, more to come over the next few days.

Tom;
Nice of you to post an update. I started this Odyssey of restoring PT 48 14 years ago and I will be there also when she is finished and rechristened. This week I have had daily updates and photos from Tim Ivory down in Fruitland, but I did not want to jinx the project by letting the cat out of the bag until they had her on the trailer and they were on the road to Kingston.
Take care,

Ted, as of this morning (12/17) things were going smoothly. I will try to get some of Timmy's photos from Florida up on 728's website before the end of the week.
I watched Timmy and his gang build the cradle that is now being bolted together under 48's hull. Very impressive work to say the least. The reports I am getting is that it fitting up very nicely.
You will see from the photos that this boat needs a LOT of work to bring her back, but these guys are certainly up for the task.
There will be some banners placed around the boat during it's trip telling people what the boat is. I know they have to take secondary routes all the way from Florida to Kingston, so I am sure photos of the boat in transport will be popping up on the internet.
There will also be some video documentary available at some point.

Hey guys check out our website
http://www.pt728.com/
I posted a few photos of PT-48's rescue operation down in Florida. They guys have a lot more that will be posted over the next few weeks. This is just a "Sneak Preview". The boat should be en route to Kingston sometime next week I believe.

I THINK I PROBABLY SPEAK FOR A LOT OF THE READERS OF THIS MESSAGE BOARD WHEN I SAY "THANK YOU" TO THE FOLKS AT "FLEET OBSOLETE" FOR DOING FOR PT BOATS WHAT "JURASSIC PARK" DID FOR DINOSAURS. THE PHOTOS OF PT-48 SHOW THAT IT'S IN WORSE SHAPE THAN MOST OF US IMAGINED. THE UPPER DECKING IS COMPLETELY GONE AND THERE'S SUBSTANCIAL DAMAGE TO THE STARBOARD BOW. I'M GLAD ROBERT IANNUCCI HAS BOTH THE ENTHUSIASM AND THE MONEY TO INVEST IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE 77 FEET OF BAD LUMBER.
JUDGING FROM WHAT WAS SPENT TO RESTORE PT-658 UP IN OREGON, THIS LOOKS TO BE ABOUT A MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT. ESPECIALLY IF THEY HOPE TO GET HER UNDERWAY AGAIN. I'D LOVE TO BE DOING IT MYSELF, BUT I JUST DON'T THINK I CAN HIDE AN EXTRA MILLION DOLLARS FROM MY WIFE FOR "HOBBY EXPENSES".

Ross;
You maybe right, but look at it this way, once she is finished, she will practically be a new boat again, just as she was in 1946 after MTBRTU finished repairing her, when she was used as a training aid to teach the MTB carpenters how to repair PT's. Hey, she does not look that bad for a poor negelected hot little princess who is 67 years and 3 months YOUNG!
In a couple of years she will be back to her beautiful old self again. Have faith!
Take care,

Ted,
How are they fixed for drawings for the 48? I have copies of some of the ELCO drawings for this series, including the lines and sections for the hull and the superstructure. If they need them, I can make copies.
