Today I got the biggest surprise of my life.
James McCoy, a gunner's mate in Ron 36, passed away yesterday morning. The reason why it was a surprise to me is that his son, Jim, and my son are best of friends, buddies, since high school and I never knew that Jim's father was in PT's.. I guess Jim never knew about me either.
In the newspaper's obituary I was surprised to read that he was in the Pacific on a PT boat. McCoy lievd less than a block from me. Oh, how I wish I knew that. We could have had moments of reminissing and swapping stories, pictures, good times ,bad times, etc.
I talked to his other son ,Tom, who said that he was interested in PT's. . He said that he used to live in Massachussetts and visited Batleship Cove a number of times.
Sometime after the funeral is over,Tom and I will get together and have a long conversation.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Ifelt that you all would have liked to know.
Russ.
