Does anyone have or can direct me to where I could find information on the size and dimensions of the later model Elco engine room ventilator? The big air scoop looking one is what I am referring to, thanks.

What series Larry? Here's the later boats by production order:

565-624
I can give you some general overall dimensions but your best bet would be Dick's drawing DVD.

The 486-545 series is what I am looking for. General shape and dimensions would be fine, not trying to build a museum quality boat her, just a fairly accurate RC Elco, probably a 495 tribute.

Ducati yes you did hear a 495 tribute. In fact you responded to my question some time back about the acey/ducey weapon on the starboard deck, and were kind enough to provide some phots and information.
I'm building a 1/20th Elco based on a laser cut bulkhead and keel kit available from John Drain in Australia. His kit utilizes actual Elco rib shapes reduced to 1/20th size to produce a very accurate shaped hull.

I still like the rendition Ed (Ducati) did with the torpedoes on his build. I asked Master Chief Jack Duncan and he confirmed they rubbed a black liquid corrosion preventative called "Tectyl" on the outside of the unpainted steel torpedo bodies and warheads to make them less shiny. No need to paint them since they would be shot at any time. He recalled rubbing that nasty stuff on there after every patrol so they would not rust in the salt air. The warheads themselves are plated with cadmium, which makes the warheads look a mottled grey color. IMHO Ed did a nearly perfect job recreating that look. I like it more every time I see it! Good going Ed!
