[StartQuote] First I am a PT boat newby but have been researching for many years relatives who served on boats. Gary Szot and Walter Kundis - Isee you are both researching the sister boats to PT 523! My cousin was Lt. Robert Orrell commander of the 523 when it was attacked by the Jap planes (from "AT Close Quarters") Robert had part of his hand shot off in this attack. In a later section of Bulkey's book I see a Lt Russell on the 523. Does anyone know if this was because of the injuries Robert suffered? I have not been able to get his records from St. Louis. He was in Miami, FL in 1945 and San Diego in 1948 when he retired. BTW: Robert was also on PT 3 in its brief existence and PT 6 (2nd). He was in RON 1 at Pearl Harbor but I do not know which boat he was on. They did, in fact pull survivors from the water. Family stories say Robert donated his Pearl Harbor photos to PT Inc?
