It sounds as though he might have been on a PC boat which was used as an anti sub craft, escourt duty or coastal patrol. They were large ( about 170 feet). Also, there were PGM's which were built to operte with the PT BOATS, adding extra fire-power. They were found to be too slow to work with the boats. They carried 3 inch 50 dual purpose guns, 40mm and 20mm guns and even 16 rockets. They were found to be successful as escourt duty vessels. Maybe he was on one of these boats............. [EndQuote]
