[StartQuote] Ahoy there to all my dear friends on this here PT Boaters board! I wrote this poem a few years ago and while going through some of my paper files, lo and behold, there it was. I hope that everyone enjoys it to some degree or other! This is the very first time it will be in print so please it you intend to pass it along, please attach my name to it! Thanks all! SEABLOOD by Frank J. Ryczek, Jr. Millions of milloins of years ago, moreso than I care to count, Before the caveman, before the birth of Christ, before Moses on the Mount! Something washed up on the shore, from a storm tossed and turbulent sea, And evolved into a creature much like you and me. Now you can argue over theology, and something called the Big Bang, Or that the world was created in six days and those who don't give a dang! But there's one thing sure we know about this world from nation to nation, The sea hasn't changed much at all since the first day of creation. You need not have been a Mariner, nor sailed the ocean's blue, To feel the pulse of the ocean rage deep inside of you! For there's a little bit of the briny deep in every drop of our blood, So it matters not color, race nor creed but that we all grew out of the flood! Why is it we are drawn to the oceans edge, what is this magnetic urge? What is this driving force that leads us there before the mighty ocean's surge? Seablood! Pure and simple is the answer to this quest, For it flows within the very core of you and me and all the rest. Have you ever had a strange sensation when you stand there at the edge of the shore? Only to imagine that somewhere, at sometime you have stood here once before! It's a strange and powerful feeling that envelopes you time and time it seems, For it leaves you to ponder the question, "Am I awake, or is this a dream?" There is no use in fighting it, for this strange feelism will always win, It's the rythum of the waves, the spray on your face and a sea song on the wind! It's something we were born with that stirs us every day that we rise, It's just the seablood in us that brings us here before the stormy seas and sky. And all the souls of sailors, who have ventured out so long ago, And the seablood that was shed upon the decks of ships of war now far below, The crashing waves and violent storms upon the surface of the sea, Are now awash upon the shores for all the world to see. And there have been mighty Navies that have ruled the oceans wave, And, oh, the men and boys who manned those ships were brave. But all those must remember a much higher power who rules the sea, For only God can rule the seas, for all the seas His rule shall be! So when you sit and ponder where the land's end meets the sea strands, Of those who stood there in your place so long ago on pristine sands. For we are just desendents of those who have gone before, With seablood in their hearts and veins as they ventured forth from distant shores! HIGH TIDES ALWAYS!
