[StartQuote] Charlie, What is it specifically you want to know? I have some stuff I could send you, (no pictures) consisting of lots of info about what who where and when. Maybe you could email me and I could send it to you. I have to page through quite a lot of info in a book and filter out only the stuff that applies to PT297 so it takes a little bit of effort on my part to transcribe it into an electronic file. If you dont mind I would like to know how come you want to know so it would guide my efforts in doing the research. One interesting tidbit I found was that, while on patrol in the Ilin Straights, (just south of Mindoro island), with PT224 on the night of 16Dec1944 the boats were attacked by 2 Val dive bombers and shot them both down. MoMM1 Holmes on board PT297 said the planes were so close he could see the color of the pilots eyes and could have thrown potatoes at them. Soon after the attack, the PT224 ran into something which fouled her rudders, and caused them to cancel the patrol. Then while seeking anchorage, PT297 ran hard aground on the north side of Ilin Island. After several unsuccessful attempts to pull her free, they left the boat stuck there for more than a month. After that and for the rest of the war, the boat stayed moored under repairs at Mangarin Bay, while the rest of the Ron16 went on without her to assist in the invasion of Borneo.
