[StartQuote] About 2 and half years ago, I got a call from a guy in Northern California who said he had something from our ship. It was a plaque and it had the USS Mispillion crest on it and below that was the inscription: To Captain Jack E Gibson from the officers and men of the USS Mispillion AO 105 we wish you smooth sailing and fair winds. That man (Steve Carlson) came to our 2005 reunion in San Francisco and gave us the plaque, which we donated to the Milford museum in Milford, Delaware. The Mispillion was named after the Mispillion river, which flows through Milford. Mr Carlson said that he was neighbors with Mr and Mrs Gibson for several years. When Mr Gibson passed away, Mrs Gibson gave Mr Carlson some boxes to store in his garage as she was moving to a retirement home. After her passing, he opened the boxes and found some of Mr Gibson's navy memorbilia. He then contacted the Gibson children, who did not want any of the memorbilia. Hence, he gave us the plaque. He said at that time that he still had some of Mr Gibson's stuff. If I can find him again, I will let you know. Steve Dengler, sec/treas USS Mispillion Shipmate Assn.[EndQuote]
