[StartQuote] I was heartbroken to learn from the family that my good friend Jack Kirksey passed away. I knew Jack was sick and we talked about a week before he died. Jack was the son of Andrew Jackson Kirksey who was one of two crewmen killed on PT-109. We spoke on the phone at least once a week or so and Jack even came to my home for a visit. The day before I had set it up for him to tour the 617 boat at Battleship Cove and he was so pleased to walk the decks and go below an Elco boat that was the type his dad served on, although a newer design. When he came to the house my good friend Stan Pienkowski was also there as I had it set up that he bring over my new 109 model for Jack to see. Stan even made one for Jack of which he was so proud to display at his home. I shall miss my friend and shall cherish the fact that we were brought together. Rest easy Jack. By the way the photo of John F. Kennedy shows Jack and his Mom meeting. Jack told me that Kennedy told him you look like your Dad.
