[StartQuote] Thanks Franklin and Dick! Nice photo of LT. A. Murray Preston USNR RON 33 C.O., This photo must have been taken right after the rescue mission to Wasile Bay, 16 SEPT 1944, This Navy Cross must have been later updated to the Medal of Honor, because, I can only find one mention of his receiving a Navy Cross(and it doesn't mention his MOH), which was his University Prep school Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. The photo of USS Louisville (CA 28) was taken shortly after she was hit by 2 Kamikazes in Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands, 6 January 1945.
USS Louisville(CA-28) returning to Mare Island, San Francisco, CA for repairs, FEB 1945. Great photos! Take care, TED P.S. On a side note: Of course, I also love the photo of USS Wachapreague(AGP-8), since in my teenage and early twenties, I lived 3 miles from Wachapreague, Virginia. Which its real claim to fame was that Wachapreague was a favorite fishing location for President Theodore Roosevelt, he would stay at the Wachapreague Hotel, which was also owned by the Lewis Family. A large, similar photo of USS Wachapreague, hung over the Bar at Randy and Zeb Lewis' restaurant, The Island House Restaurant and Marina. Out front, next to the front door walk up, they also had a barnacle encrusted Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine from a Navy F4U-1A Corsair, that ditched in the area during World War Two. If that wasn't enough for several years(in the 1980's) Randy Lewis was Jimmy Buffett's tour chef, so we got to hang out with Jimmy a few times at the bar! He sure kept the Beers and the Margaritas coming! In fact because of this side job Randy had, you just never knew who would be standing/sitting next to you at the bar, one night it was David Lee Roth, from Van Halen, another night was Stevie Ray Vaughan, another night Clarence Clemons, and Stevie Van Zandt of the E-Street band! Somebody said the next night Bruce also stopped in, but I didn't get to meet him.In fact whoever Randy had cooked for before, musicians would always, if they could squeeze it into there tour schedule, between concert gigs in Norfolk or Philly, they would stop in. I spent many a afternoon and night there, it was a great place to hang out! The original, built in 1978 burned in August 1992, while I was in Panama, So they rebuilt it. The current Island House Restaurant is designed after the old Parramore Island Life Saving Station, which was built in the 1800s. [EndQuote]
