[StartQuote] Frank, According to author Robert J. Donovan in "PT 109 - John F. Kennedy in World War II," JFK carried a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver (issued to him, along with a sheath knife, on the Navy transport U.S.S. Rochambeau), most probably a Victory Model, and carried (again, most probably) in an open holster with a strap that crossed over in front of the revolver's hammer and snap-buttoned to the holster. According to Donovan, there was a lanyard on the .38's oval ring on the butt of the gun. JFK hung the .38 around his neck by this lanyard on his night time swims in Blackett Straight. I would think the holster was most probably carried by JFK on a standard U.S. web pistol belt, either slipped on through the holster's belt loop, or hung from the pistol belt's grommets by a standard military equipment wire hook, slipped onto the holster's belt loop. As far as his dress, I would have thought he'd have been wearing standard officer's khakis -- long sleeved shirt and pants -- and boondockers on patrol, but a lot, if not all, of the swimming he did during the survival ordeal, he did in his white skivvy shorts.
