[StartQuote] Hi George, The PT658 originally had a planked deck, but it was so rotten that it had to be replaced. The vets chose tp replace it with marine grade 13 layer 18mm mahogany plywood "Edensaw" I think, which was liberally soaked with Smith Systems Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealant.. It will last much longer than the original planks. The planks ran fore and aft, and were diagonal on the inside, with a layer of canvas between the inside layer and the top layer of 1/2 inch mahogany deck planks. I hope this is helpful.
