[StartQuote] Ted and Dave M: Wow, not sure how I missed this in Dave's post of last year. Dave, when you write that E.M. Erickson was the CO of Ron SIX in January of 1943 I must ask what references you are relying upon for that. Edward M. Erickson was boat captain of PT 121 in Div 17 (Ron SIX) for at least several months prior to December of 1942 (possibly much earlier, even prior to Sept 22 when Div 17 was formed) and while transiting the Pacific (I think it was while at Noumea) Lt. Baughman snagged him to serve as ExO of that division. The ExO of the 121 was moved up to take command and another ensign was made ExO of the boat. In all of my data regarding Div 17 I can find no reference to Mooney being assigned to any boat. Of course, that does not mean that it did not happen, especially after Ron EIGHT absorbed Div 17. But I find nothing other than the photo that I provided as taken by a member of the crew of one of the Div 17 boats who obviously had befriended your Dad. I have discovered a couple of instances where a base force guy was transferred from the force to a particular boat (and vice versa)- but nothing to that effect regarding your Dad. Now Ted, something you just wrote: you referenced Robert T. Leary as being in Panama as CO of the 48 boat. I know that you are aware that it was Raymond T. Leary (later to serve as CO of PT 113, Div 17)who served as CO from January 16 to June 24, 1942 so I'll assume that "Robert" was a bit of a "typo" and the date of May 2 was in reference only to Tufts' time on the 48 boat. Just trying to keep the info "straight". Further, I too have a few references of BM's assigned directly to PT's. You may recall the video that was done years ago by PT Boats, Inc. where they interviewed Roger Lenehan, BM1/c assigned to PT 120 (Div 17). I can't recall the title of that video. I have it but no longer have a way of viewing it (everything here is DVD now!). Anyway- it's all good. Allan [EndQuote]
