[StartQuote] Jerry, To my knowledge, there were no Alamo Scouts rescue missions performed with or supported by PT boats in Jan/Feb 1945. Of course, the Cabanatuan mission occured on Jan 30-Feb 1, 1945, but that included NO PT boats. Having studied PT boat mission reports from the New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon Campaigns, it was common for PTs to mistake scouts of the Alamo Scouts for Alamo Force scouts. Alamo Force was simply the name of the U.S. 6th Army through the New Guinea Campaign. The Alamo Scouts were classified until October 1944, and so many scouting parties were mistakenly identified as Alamo Scouts by Army and Navy personnel. This has been maddening to try and sort through, but I have largely identified most of the PT boats that supported the missions. However, there are a few gaps. Granted, the men in the photos look like Alamo Scouts John McGowen (rear) and Robert Sumner (forefront), but I cannot make a definitive identification. If I find out anything, or if you receive additional info, please let me know. Thanks again for all you do, Lance[EndQuote]
