[StartQuote] Hi Andrew, There was a PT Boat base on Espiritu Santo at the mouth of the river leading into the harbour area. However as the war quickly moved further away from the New Hebrides the need for the base did not exist due to the need of the boats to be close to the action.. The base was taken over by the Flying Boats and a much larger area was cleared to give the aircraft somewere for dry land serviceing. Most of the PT Boat Base was cleared away at this time.. I don't know if you have been to Santo but I have spent a week there diving the Pres. Coolidge in the mornings and as the afternoons are free I set off and wandered around the many WW11 sites on the Island. Unfortunatly at the PT Boat site there is very little left but trees growing in a very clear area next to the river were the base was and I spent most of one afternoon at this site so as to not feel that I had misssed anything. I will do some digging in the info iI have an will try to give you some more info on this area. As i am sure the other members of this board will also . Cheers David. D.buck[EndQuote]
