[StartQuote] Excellent! I've never seen that picture before. Didn't realize the patch was used that early. The jacket is the standard blue winter jacket that came out in (I believe) 1939. It was modified in 1943 by replacing the zipper with clips but was susperceeded by the N-1 jacket in 1943. They are somewhat hard to find and are somewhat expensive. One sold on ebay recently for $669, I've seen them go higher. At this time, the navy wasn't big into letter-number designations on their uniform items. Didn't really start until 1943. so there isn't an N-?? type designation for this jacket Officially, the googles were not designated as the AN-6530 til 1943 (the AN stands for Army-Navy), although it was pretty much the same design as the earlier ones (I think the AAF called them B-7.) The hats (officially helmets) they are wearing appear to be the standard winter helmet, also made of the blue jungle cloth that the jackets were made of. You can tell by the big piece of cloth that hangs over the neck. The ones the flight deck crews wore were a light-weight cloth and didn't have the neck protector. The winter helmet was lined to keep your head warm. I'd have to get a closer better view but they may also be wearing the winter bib-pants that went with the winter clothing set. It looks like there are straps around the ankles but need a better view. This whole set had a wool lining. You can find the hats and the trousers for this set easily but like I said, the jacket is a bit tough. Charlie[EndQuote]
