[StartQuote] Basically, there was a Shore Patrol just about everywhere there was a Navy base. It would have been part of the Base structure/organization. Now the size of the Base organization may have varied in size. In the Continental US and larger more permanent bases, there was a larger regular "permanant" contingent assigned as the Shore Patrol (a lot of civilian policemen who were drafted/enlisted were put in these positions). All of these Shore Patrol contingents would have been augmented (as necessary) by local commands or ships. It was just a duty assignment for them. This included officers and enlisted men. Uniforms for the SPs would have been what was prescribed for all sailors, CPOs and Officers. Would probably have worn an SP armband, a web belt (watch belt) and carried a nightstick. Out in remote area bases (like the Pacific), they probably wore dungarees along with something that identified them as SP (as if the nightstick didn't give it away). Charlie[EndQuote]
